Introduction: It has been demonstrated that the inflammatory markers such as IL-6, TNF-α and CRP are increased in STZ-diabetic rats. The present study is to investigate the effects of medicinal plants used in traditional medicine, including garlic extract; nettle leaves extract and olive extract on serum hsCRP and IL-6 and TNF-α on the rats with diabetes.
Methods: Diabetes was induced in male wistar rats by single injection streptozotocin (60 mg/kg). Garlic extract, nettle leaves extract and olive extract were used one day after induction of diabetes until three weeks after STZ-diabetes induction. In this study the animals were divided into five groups: control, diabetic, diabetic + garlic extract (50 mg / kg), diabetes + Nettle leaf extract (30 mg / kg), and diabetes + Olive extract (30 mg / kg). After 21 days, serum levels of inflammatory factors were measured using ELISA kits.

Results: The results showed that the serum levels of hsCRP and IL-6 and TNF-α in the target groups, the use of medicinal plants extracts, as compared to untreated diabetics have significantly decreased.
Conclusion: The results showed that administration of garlic extract, nettle extract and olive extract significantly attenuated levels inflammatory markers such as IL-6, TNF-α and CRP in diabetic rats.
