In consequence of the physiological response of the body, breathing, heart rate and blood pressure increase. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of hand massage on anxiety and physiological indicators in cataract surgery. Methods: This study is a clinical trial on 60 female patients undergoing cataract surgery in eyes Amir Kabir Hospital in 1393, which initially purposively and then randomly assigned into two groups: hands massage group (n=30) and control group (n=30)., after obtaining informed consent Done. Anxiety level by VAS and physiological indicators (pulse, systolic &diastolic blood pressure are measured in hands massage group in the morning of the surgery at first and ten minutes later of massages. Patients In the intervention groups Received massage of hand for five minutes before surgery by Friction and petrisage methods but in the control group instead of a real massage, pantomime was performed and then the anxiety was measured immediately after the intervention. The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS software, version 21. Results: The research findings indicated that there was no significant distinction between experimental and control groups in terms of underlying characteristics (p>0.05) There was statistically significant reduce in anxiety level and physiological indicators before and after intervention in on hand groups contrast control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Results showed that hand massage was effective on vital signs and anxiety level, therefore nurses can use hand massage for reducing anxiety and improvement of physiological indicesof the patients before operation.
