Background:Breast feeding is known the most effective ways to babies’ nutrition and health. While having inadequate milk is a major common problem for mothers after delivery. Silymarin is a plant with probable golactogogic effect. The aim of this systematic review and meta analysis is evaluation silyamarin effect on increase mothers’ milk.
Method:The data on the effects of Silyamarin plant on increasing milk production were gathered from English and Persian data bases. The search was carried out for the works conducted from 2005 to 2020. The inclusion criteria for the related articles included the studies conducted as clinical trials, and published in English and Persian while the exclusion criteria included the article’s full text being unavailable or having unrelated results or the trials on animals.
Results:Four clinical trials were studied in our research. The total sample size included 294 people. Three studies had confirmed optimal effects of silymarin plant on increasing breast milk. Result of Forest plat showed that Silymarin has no significant effect on increasing milk volume. No serious side effects had been reported for the consumption of the plant in question in any of the studies.
Conclusions:The Silymarin plant generally can not leads to an increase in the breast milk in mothers who have recently given birth. However, the number of studies in this area is not as many as one would expect to encounter, so there seems to be a need for further studies in the field.
