Introduction: Burnout is one of the most important problems employees may encounter and by which many health problems arise to be dealt with by the employees and the owners in the industry. The present study intended to compare the effect of Rosmarinus Officinalis (RO) and Theobroma Cacao (Ca) on burnout in employees who work in industrial environments.
Methods: A clinical trial study performed to see whether or not RO and Ca have an effect on the burnout. A number of 99 employees, aged between 20 and 60, who had worked at least 1 year in the technical wards, took part in the study. The participants randomly assigned to three groups of control, RO, and Ca. The RO group received 4 gr of Rosemary in 150cc boil water, and the Ca group 5 gr of cacao in 150 cc milk per day for 2 months. The control group, on the other hand, received anything. The data collected via Geldard Burnout Inventory before and after the treatment. A t–test conducted to analyze the collected data.
Results: Mean burnout score in RO group and in Ca group was respectively (134.1±21.02) and (135.8±22.7) before intervention and it was (125±24.5) (in RO group) and (122.5±31.2) (in Ca group) after intervention. Significant differences were found between the control and Ca groups (p=0.02) and also between the control and RO groups (p=0.04) in favor of the experimental groups.
Conclusion: The results of the study revealed that Rosmarinus and cocoa have a positive effect on burnout in employees in this study. Further studies in this field are suggested.
