Introduction: Infertility is a public health problem worldwide. Infertility is associated with many psychological problems. The reality therapy is one of the newest approaches and psychological therapies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of reality therapy on psychological well-being of infertile women.
Methods: The present study is an interventional study with a pre and post-test method, in order to investigate the effect of counseling based on reality therapy on the psychological well-being on 38 infertile women who referred to Arak University Jihad Infertility Center. After obtaining informed consent and with available sampling, out of 95 infertile women who met the criteria to enter the study, 40 who scored less than 54 on the RIF psychological well-being questionnaire (pre-test), were randomly placed into two groups of 20. The intervention group received 8 reality therapy counseling sessions and the control group received routine care. After the intervention, the RIF questionnaire was again provided to the two groups (post-test). Data were analyzed by chi-square, independent t and paired t tests in SPSS version 25 software.
Results: The mean age of women was 26.9 ± 4.9 years. The results showed that the mean score of psychological well-being (Respectively (48.7 ± 17.48 63.97± 5.31 P=0.0001 ).as well as all the components of psychological well-being, including independence, mastery of the environment, personal growth, positive relationship with others, purposefulness and self-acceptance, increased significantly in the intervention group compared to the control group (P=0.0001).
Conclusions: According to the findings of this research, reality therapy counseling can be effective in improving the psychological condition of infertile women.
