Introduction: One of the most common complications of diabetes is diabetic neuropathy, which is often associated with pain, loss of sensation, and amputation. The complex mechanism of this disease is not yet fully understood, leading to inadequate assessment and treatment. Prevention or diagnosis in the early stages of the disease is very important to prevent the onset of symptoms and progression of neuropathy. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of Neurobion administration on blood glucose, pain, and memory indexes in an animal model of streptozocin-induced diabetic neuropathy in male mice.
Materials and Methods: In this study, 21 male mice were divided into three groups. The first group (control group) received saline only, the second group (diabetes group) received 100 mg/Kg streptozocin, and the third group (vitamin B group) received 100 mg/Kg streptozocin and 2 ml/Kg Neurobion (B1/B6/B12). Then, a glucometer kit was used to check blood sugar, an elevated plus maze and a novel object recognition test were used to check memory, and a formalin test was used to check pain.
Results: Our results showed that administration of 2 ml/kg of Neurobion to streptozotocin-induced diabetic male mice had no effect on reducing blood sugar and cognitive memory; however, it improved pain index and anxiety memory.
Conclusion: B vitamins play a crucial role in the process of nerve regeneration and cognitive functions. According to the results obtained, it is suggested that Neurobion be administered simultaneously with drugs effective in improving diabetic neuropathy and at different doses to examine its effects.
